As the quarantine period started in Central Florida and restaurants began to shut down, our entire business model has been in a place of pivot. At first, we had an introspective reaction of what these changes were doing to our business and our team. But then we realized that it was so much bigger than just our three restaurants. Local farmers who sell us our food were struggling. At the peak of the growing season, farmer’s markets were shut down and farmers needed help to get their product in the hands of customers. Parents were torn between needing to provide healthy food for their families and not wanting to risk their health by going to the grocery store.
It was time to reinvent, so our founder, Chelsie Savage, stayed up late one night designing a business that would do SOMETHING to help. We call it the Virtual Farmers Market. It’s all of the products that you would find at a farmer’s market, but it’s now available to order online and get your fresh, healthy food delivered to your car or to your door.
We brought together all our local farms & businesses that relied upon restaurants and Farmers Markets for their livelihood. Along with fresh produce, you can also order chef-driven and local essentials. Customers order online from the Virtual Farmers Market with pickup at our three restaurant locations.
The farms and vendors on this site fall into at least one of these three categories: They are locally Florida owned; they rely on restaurants & farmers markets for a large portion of their livelihood; or, as is the case with most of our wine menu, they do not have access to grocery stores as a supply chain avenue. By shopping the Virtual Farmers Market, you are putting your money in the hands of small farms, small businesses, and local Central Floridians.
Response to our Virtual Farmer’s Market has been incredible, and it got us thinking- why does this have to be just a pandemic thing? The Central Florida community is passionate about shopping local, but it’s not always convenient to spend weekend mornings at a farmer’s market. So many people value eating healthy but it’s not realistic to eat out at a restaurant every night or get takeout. After a long day at work (or at home!), it’s sometimes exhausting to grocery shop and prepare meals from scratch. Sure, there are national meal delivery meal prep services, but they aren’t local, fresh, or healthy. So, for us at Real Damn Good Food, this new venture is also a way to make healthy, fresh, and easy come to life in Orlando’s home kitchens. The Virtual Farmers Market provides a way to support the nutrition of our community in a way that makes sense with our very dynamic lifestyles.
